Estados mentales en ausencia de lenguaje: Pruebas en el estudio de la personalidad

Resumen

En el presente artículo defenderemos la existencia de estados mentales en ausencia de lenguaje a través del estudio de la personalidad. Nuestra hipótesis inicial es que el estudio de la personalidad en humanos puede aplicarse a individuos con indiferencia de su edad, lo que también incluiría a niños prelingüísticos. Si las principales teorías dentro del estudio de la personalidad recurren a estados mentales en sus enunciados, entonces podremos afirmar que estos estados mentales estarán presentes en la cognición de los niños prelingüísticos. Para afianzar esta hipótesis, concluiremos con otras metodologías científicas utilizadas con el mismo fin fuera del ámbito de la personalidad: la imitación diferida y los test de mirada preferencial. En su totalidad, estos datos nos permiten concluir que hablar de estados mentales en niños prelingüísticos es posible y que el lenguaje no es una condición imprescindible para poseer este tipo de estados.
