Abstract

The principle of compositionality has been well accepted by certain currents of the philosophy of language and linguis- tics. However, they have raised the ques- tioned of this priniciple’s validity in the analysis of natural language. The princi- pal issues noticed are related to contex- tual or pragmatic aspects. The aim of this work is to show that there are some cases of natural language in which the princi- ple of compositionality, in its traditional version, is limited and, therefore, inop- erative. I will defend that the principle of compositionality meets other limits if we analyze the meaning of linguistic con- structions in the light of Text Linguistics.
