Abstract

In contemporary philosophy, the concept of narrative has recently been emphasized as a way to understand the structure of subjectivity. However, there are critical views regarding the overemphasis of this concept applied to the study of consciousness. This paper addresses the discussion of the narrative structure of subjectivity and its relationship to diegetic narration in literature. Based on the principles Peter Lamarque identifies in literary work, it is argued that at least two of them are useful in explaining the development of intersubjective understanding. It is argued that this process occurs through a narrative scaffolding between the structure of consciousness and literary narration. Finally, the idea of narrative scaffolding is applied to empirical evidence in linguistic interventions in patients with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
