On How Phantasie Displaced Imagination. From Fantasy as Image to Image as a Case of Fantasy in Edmund Husserl's Phenomenology
Abstract
The development of the concept of fantasy can be interpreted as the gradual transition from understanding it as an image, to understanding it as an immediate, neutral, and intuitive experience. Three key moments are distinguished: first, where the notion of image predominates over fantasy; second, when Husserl questions whether fantasy is a form of image; and finally, around 1916, when the idea of fantasy as an attitude and image as perceptive fantasy emerges. This work seeks to answer: how is the transition possible from fantasy understood as image, to the experience of image as a specific case of fantasy?References
